Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using RelaRoots at relaroots.com ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service. RelaRoots is operated by RelaRoots ("we," "our," or "us").

2. Description of Service

RelaRoots is a family tree platform that allows users to build, manage, and visualize family history with photos, stories, locations, and interactive tree visualizations. The Service includes free and paid subscription tiers with varying feature limits.

3. Accounts

You must create an account to use the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate information when creating your account.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or guardian.

4. Your Data

You retain full ownership of all family tree data, photos, stories, and other content you create or upload to the Service ("Your Content"). We do not claim any intellectual property rights over Your Content.

You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. This license ends when you delete Your Content or your account.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload any content, including photos and biographical information about other individuals.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
• Upload malicious files, viruses, or harmful content
• Attempt to access other users' data or family workspaces without authorization
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
• Use the Service to harass, stalk, or harm any individual
• Create accounts through automated means or misrepresent your identity
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
• Resell or redistribute the Service without written permission

6. Subscriptions and Payments

The Service offers free (Sapling) and paid (Oak, Redwood) subscription tiers. Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe on a monthly or annual basis.

Free tier: Available at no cost with limited features and storage. We reserve the right to modify free tier limits with reasonable notice.

Paid tiers: Charged at the rate displayed at time of purchase. Prices may change for new subscribers, but existing subscribers retain their rate for the duration of their billing cycle.

Launch pricing: Early adopters who subscribe during the launch period lock in their discounted rate permanently, as long as their subscription remains active.

Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time through the billing portal. Access to paid features continues until the end of your current billing period. No refunds are provided for partial billing periods.

Downgrades: If you cancel or downgrade and your data exceeds the lower tier's limits, your data is preserved but you will not be able to add new content until you are within the tier's limits or upgrade again.

7. Shared Views and Collaboration

You may invite other users to your family workspace or create share links for read-only access. You are responsible for managing access to your workspace and the data shared through it. Share links can be revoked at any time.

8. Data Export

You may export your family tree data in GEDCOM format at any time. We believe in data portability — your family history belongs to you, and you should always be able to take it with you.

9. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the Service. We may perform maintenance, updates, or modifications that temporarily affect availability. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of planned downtime.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. Upon account deletion, we will remove your personal data and content within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

11. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, RelaRoots shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.

Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles.
